ABOUT YOG
The Youth Olympic Games (YOG) were created in 2007 by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) as a new elite sporting competition for young people with both, summer and winter editions. The first summer edition was held in Singapore in 2010 and the first winter YOG were held in Innsbruck in 2010. Both events follow the traditional four year cycle of the Olympic Games.
Other key features are:
The Culture and Education Programme (CEP) which provides a truly unique experience for the young athletes and local youth and focuses on five main themes: Olympism, Social, Responsibility, Skills Development, Expression and Well-being & Healthy Lifestyle.
The YOG Ambassadors Programme, which allows the young athletes to engage with Olympic Champions during the Games who can share their experience and values with them and motivate them. From Usain Bolt to Michael Phelps in Singapore 2010 to Lionel Messi or Luciana Aymar in Buenos Aires 2018.
Summer editions count so far with an average participation of 3500 athletes and over 200 countries. If you would like to have further information about the previous editions please visit the International Olympic Committee.
